Sell, redeem and check a gift card
Sell a gift card as a line on a checkout, pay with one, and look up a balance.
Steps
- To sell: open a checkout, choose Gift card in the Add a line list, set the Price (from $1.00 to $10,000.00), and optionally fill in Recipient name, Recipient email and Card code (blank = new). Press Save lines, take payment, and press Checkout.
- To redeem: in Take payment choose the Gift card tab, type the Gift card code, optionally type an amount above (blank uses as much as is due), and press Redeem gift card.
- To check a balance: on the same tab press Check balance.
What you will see
- A sold card is issued when the checkout completes. The line then shows the code, like "Code XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX", and the recipient.
- "Gift card applied. The rest stays on the card." A card can pay part of a bill.
- A balance reads "XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX: $18.00 left of $25.00".
Common problems
- "No gift card has that code."
- Check the code. "Type or scan the gift card's code." means the box is empty.
- "That gift card has been voided.", "has expired." or "has no balance left."
- The card cannot be used.
- "Sell one gift card per line."
- Use quantity 1 and add another line for another card.
- "A gift card with that code already exists."
- Leave the code blank for a new one, or type a different code.
Good to know
- A gift card is never taxed or discounted. The screens do not set an expiry date.
- A gift-card payment that is refunded goes back onto the card, never to cash.
- There is no screen that emails a card to the recipient, or that lists or voids cards. Give the buyer the code yourself.
